Leadership Workshops
Jarara facilitates four individual leadership workshops for all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students enrolled in Years 6 to 12 in the Parramatta diocese. The purpose of these workshops is to provide Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students an opportunity to network with one another and to learn about the many facets of leadership skills.
Each workshop provides students with three key components, focusing on leadership, resilience building and Aboriginal identity.
Examples of concepts explored at workshops include:
- leadership component – goal setting, strategies for managing a group, leading a group
- resilience Building component – This component explores good and bad feelings, making positive choices and dreams and goals.
- Aboriginal identity - Culture and history, Aboriginal Dance/art/music expression, Aboriginal identity, belonging and ownership – Mother Earth
On completion of these leadership workshops, students will be able to:
- explore their own learning style and how to use this to their advantage
- plan and organise strategies to effective complete assignments and homework
- use study skills to retain information that they have learnt and how to recall that information
- recognise the importance of choosing subjects that will suit them
- network with the other Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students across the Diocese
Our aim is to improve Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students current study skills and prepare them with insight into future career, employment or study option.
